Gutters are not a necessity, but are important to have installed at your home. Think about the last down pour you had at your house. When the water pours off of the sides of your home, it is noisy and makes the rain run off from all over your roof. With a gutter, you can prevent this from happening. A rain gutter will catch and funnel the rain off of the roof and take it down to the ground. There are many different types of gutters and you can even learn how to install gutters yourself.

If you have ever taken part in the old scout tradition-the rain gutter regatta, you know how versatile gutters can be. Rain gutters can be used for many projects, but are most suited for routing rain run off from your roof. Not only do they keep the water from pouring off the roof, but they also take the large amount of water away from the foundation of your home, which can cause problems in the long run. Aluminum gutters and copper gutters will protect your roof, your home, windows, doors and the foundation of your home. Gutter guards are other great accessories you can add to your gutters. Also called gutter helmet, or gutter covers, these attach over the top of the open gutter and keep leaves and debris from clogging up the gutters. This can be a big problem if you live near a lot of trees. Cleaning out your gutters is easy, but it takes time. You can install gutter screens to help this problem.

While some people say that gutter installation is not a project you should do without help, you can learn how to place gutters around your home. Gutters are widely available and you can find them in many styles and colors. Before you start this project, then you should take some time to measure how much guttering you need and what kind you want to buy. You will also want to make sure you have all the necessary tools available to you. The most common type of gutter is the “u” shaped gutter. These are the type you will place along your roof line. You can also buy the “K” style, which comes in several different diameters. Your downspouts will need to match your diameter and you might also need extensions.
